The project SUPRALAT: Strengthening suspects’ rights in pre-trial proceedings through practice oriented training for lawyers in criminal proceedingswas coordinated by the Maastricht University and co-funded by the European Union. The Hungarian Helsinki Committee participated in the project as a project partner. The project aimed at providing interactive, practice-oriented trainings on the skills of lawyers for strengthening the rights of suspects – provided by EU law – in police custody. The trainings were delivered to lawyers practicing in Belgium, Ireland, The Netherlands and Hungary. The project was launched on 1 October 2015 and closed in 30 September 2017. Detailed information is presented on the project website.

The Hungarian Helsinki Committee contributed to the development of training materials and organized two trainings in Hungary. The first event which addressed future trainers (TTT session) was held on 9-10 March 2017, and the pilot training (with the contribution of a selected participant of the TTT session) took place on 1-2 June 2017. Both trainings were composed of an e-learning phase and a face-to-face training. A Handbook for future trainers and organizers of a SUPRALAT training was prepared and widely disseminated to the Hungarian Bar Associations.

The Budapest Bar Association contributed to the project as an associate partner.
