EC: Hungarian asylum law incompatible with EU norms

As a major advocacy success for the HHC, the European Commission launched an infringement procedure against Hungary for the violation of asylum-related EU law in December, after a record fast preparatory process. The Commission’s assessment of the situation entirely reflects the HHC’s concerns and has been widely informed by a number of materials we published in 2015, such as our notes on the government’s xenophobic campaign in April, on fundamental asylum-related legislative and policy changes in August and in September, as well as on the criminalization of illegal entry in September.
