Vacancy: Part-time project assistant for the Refugee Law Reader

The Hungarian Helsinki Committee manages the Refugee Law Reader (www.refugeelawreader.org),  a comprehensive on-line model curriculum for the study of the complex and rapidly evolving field of international asylum and refugee law

We are looking for a part-time project assistant for a fixed period of three months (1 September – 30 November 2014). Working time: 24 hours per week (with flexible distribution). This position is based in the HHC office in Budapest, Hungary.

Your task will be to:

  • Assist the updating process of the English and Spanish versions of the Refugee Law Reader, liaise with academics and publishing houses, upload materials to the Refugee Law Reader website;
  • Provide technical and administrative assistance to the organisation of a regional refugee law course in Latin-America in December 2014;
  • Develop and maintain an academic contact database for the Refugee Law Reader;
  • Perform background research (on-line resources, contacts, legal materials, etc.).

Our requirements:

  • Fluency in English and Spanish (including written correspondence);
  • Full computer literacy;
  • Experience with organising events, meetings or travel;
  • Right to be engaged in gainful employment in Hungary;
  • Reliability, punctuality and precision;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Agreement with the HHC’s goals and mandate and a good understanding of the HHC’s asylum-related activities, including the Refugee Law Reader;

Our preferences:

  • Some experience in refugee law or any asylum-related activity;
  • Previous involvement with an NGO or an academic institution;
  • Experience in managing websites.

Knowledge of Hungarian language is not required for this position.

  • Gain practical experience in organisation, on-line research and team work.
