Váltás magyarra

Our project to protect the freedom of assembly and freedom of expression responds to the worrying developments of 2025, in particular the legislative amendment that made it possible to ban Budapest Pride. These changes not only violate the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, but also threaten the freedom and security of all Hungarian citizens. The project aims to raise awareness of the risks posed by restrictions on freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, while equipping participants with practical knowledge to help them exercise and defend their rights.

As part of the campaign, bilingual information materials, live online discussions, influencer collaborations, and legal observers working on the ground support participants, particularly in connection with the 2025 Budapest Pride and other upcoming demonstrations. Our goal is to inspire and support tens of thousands of people to exercise their rights consciously and confidently, stand up for equality and the rule of law, and know that they are not alone if they experience unlawful treatment by the authorities. The project also helps strengthen the Hungarian Helsinki Committee’s role in protecting fundamental freedoms in Hungary and enables it to provide effective support to citizens who stand up against restrictions on their rights.
