Váltás magyarraAccording to the news János Lázár, the leader of the FIDESZ-KDNP faction in Parliament, said on 20 June 2011 that depriving defendants of the possibility to contact their defence counsels during their first interrogation while in arrest is necessary because “the aim of criminal defence lawyers is to ensure that criminals being politicians get away with their crimes”. The Hungarian Helsinki Committee and the Eötvös Károly Public Policy Institute hold this statement unacceptable as it completely ignores the fundamental right to criminal defence.
