Submissions to UN Special Rapporteurs in the context of elections in Hungary in 2024

The UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association and the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression are working on reports on elections for the Human Rights Council in June 2025. The Hungarian Helsinki Committee prepared two submissions to calls for inputs to these reports. The contributions are related to the European Parliament and local elections held in Hungary on 9 June 2024.

The Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression called for submissions to inform the report on “Freedom of Expression and Elections in the Digital Age”. The HHC’s submission is available here.

The Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association called for reflections on the “super election” year and its global impact on the protection of the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association and for ensuring effective and inclusive public participation.
