NGOs oppose the immigration detention of children
The Hungarian Helsinki Committee, the Hungarian Red Cross and Menedék – the Hungarian Association for Migrants epxress their deepest concerns regarding the immigration detention of children that is to be introduced by the modification of alien policing legislation.
Detention of minors separated from the parents or families with little children does not take into consideration the specific situation and special vulnerabilities of migrant or asylum seeking children. The proposed bill would allow for a 30-day-long detention of unaccompanied minors, a measure lacking any legal or practical justification (such as public order). The Parliament starts discussing the bill tomorrow.
The joint statement of the three NGOs is available in Hungarian here.
