On 1 June 2023, the judicial reform package adopted by the Parliament to comply with the super milestones set out in Hungary’s Recovery and Resilience Plan with a view to enhancing the independence of the judiciary entered into force. The reform package significantly changed, among others, the provisions concerning the allocation of cases at the apex court of Hungary, the Kúria. However, deficiencies persist. Our new paper lists the problems observed when reviewing the case allocation scheme and system of the Kúria and their practical application, based on the HHC’s experience gained in the period that lapsed since the entry into force of the reform package.

The paper is available here:
A brief assessment of the case allocation scheme and system of the Kúria based on the experiences of the period since the entry into force of the judicial reform (26 September 2023)

(A previous version of the assessment, presenting the situation as on 26 July 2023 is available here; the version presenting the situation as on 14 July 2023, is available here.)
