Borbála Ivány

Attorney-at-law




Borbála Ivány is an experienced human rights attorney who represents victims of human rights abuses carried out by law enforcement authorities. She has gathered remarkable expertise in representing vulnerable victims of rights violations, especially detainees, members of marginalised communities, ethnic minorities and people living with disabilities. She represents clients before both domestic and international fora, such as the European Court of Human Rights. She also has significant experience in training criminal justice professionals and law students. She coordinates the unique, innovative support network for detainees and their family members established by the HHC, which advocates for a fair prison system in Hungary. Before becoming an attorney, she was a project coordinator and legal officer at the HHC, implementing domestic and international projects related to torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, detention, law enforcement and antidiscrimination. She previously conducted regular human rights monitoring visits to penitentiaries in Hungary. Before joining the HHC, she used to be a legal officer at the Ministry of Justice and Law Enforcement.
